Where leafing soil awakens butterflies, dragonflies, and the quiet joy of growth
I am Sandra, founder of LeafingSoil. My journey with gardening began in California, where I lived for five years. Watching my toddlers harvest and enjoy tomatoes and strawberries straight from the vine was one of the purest joys of parenthood — a reminder that food grown with care nourishes both body and spirit.
Returning to Singapore, the pull of the soil never left me. I found myself in community gardens, rediscovering my eye for cultivation and applying and tweaking what I had practiced abroad. Volunteering in three different gardens reinforced the wisdom I have always embraced: healthy soil is the foundation of strong plants, nourishing food, and a grounded way of living.
In the early years, I learned through trial and error, guided by the soil itself. Over time, I grew into permaculture, regenerative agriculture, food forest design, and syntropic farming. These principles guide me today, but I adapt them with creativity and care to each unique space, climate, and group of people I work with.
My 600‑sqft outdoor garden in west Singapore is a sanctuary — a living classroom where participants are invited to explore, experiment, and trust the process. Whether in corridors, balconies, or containers high above the ground, I show how soil remains the foundation of abundance. With the help of food waste, enzymes, and earthworms, even the smallest spaces can be transformed into fertile ecosystems. And when edibles are grown with care, they are not only nourishing but also beautiful — proving that productivity and aesthetics can thrive together.
Workshops are collaborative. We build together, experiment together, and share ideas freely. I encourage participants to ask questions, even explore what AI suggests, and then check those ideas against reality by planting, observing, and adapting. It is practical, hands‑on learning that inspires action and confidence.
LeafingSoil is more than a garden — it is a sanctuary of resilience and renewal. Butterflies, bees, frogs, and birds remind us that we are part of a larger cycle, while herbs and greenery calm the mind. Even those who usually shy away from the outdoors find that this space offers connection, discovery, and healing.
Join me in the living classroom sessions and workshops, where gardening becomes accessible and meaningful. Together, we nurture soil, spark creativity, and cultivate abundance — showing that even modest spaces, from balconies to corridors, can flourish when we work with nature.
Collaborations with kind, respectful, and trustworthy organisations and companies extend this vision further. Through paid partnerships, my garden becomes a space for learning and projects. My goal over the next five years is to lease ten times the land, creating a place where we can provide budget‑friendly gardening activities and education for our community — from ages 1 to 100 — together with partners who believe in cultivating abundance for all.
