Thick blue-green leaves and sweet, crisp stems - the kailan from your usual zi char plate, except you grew it. Take the outer leaves as you need them and the plant keeps pushing new ones from the centre.
Young leaves are mild enough to eat raw - rinse well and toss them into a salad or sandwich. Or blanch 90 seconds and stir-fry hard with garlic and oyster sauce.
Morning sun, damp soil, a feed every fortnight.
Caterpillars love it as much as we do, so check under the leaves every few days and pick off what you find. It's a two-minute job - and it's why homegrown tastes better than the sprayed alternative.
