At 1.2m, this one is almost done growing with us. What you carry home is a plant already at the size most people never quite get theirs to.
Young sunflowers track the sun across the sky through the day and swing back east overnight. At this height that's finished; the stem has stiffened and the head will open facing east and stay there.
Full sun, all day. Water it every day, and check again in the afternoon — a stem this tall drinks hard, and a pot on a hot balcony can go from damp to bone dry between morning and evening. One missed day at this stage costs you the bud.
When the petals drop and the back of the head turns brown, cut it and hang it somewhere dry. Half the seeds for the birds, half to sow again.
